Cactus Garden

Originally established in 1935, the Cactus Garden is home to an extensive collection of native Texas cacti and succulents, including species native to both North and South America. Along with in-ground plantings, there is a greenhouse that houses a large collection of rare and threatened cacti.

Highlights

Operated in cooperation with the Fort Worth Cactus and Succulent Society, the cactus garden is currently concentrating on cacti that grow well in north-central Texas. Each winter, FWCSS members relocate cold-sensitive specimens to the garden’s greenhouse and replant them in the spring. A special soil mixture was developed to provide adequate drainage in the beds; it consists of crushed brick, carpenter’s sand, decomposed granite, and more.
